Recycle, Repurpose and Reuse

Because of our mission to contribute to environmental sustainability, much of our packaging comes from recycled materials. Continuous work in progress, here are some easy tips to recycle, repurpose or reuse our materials to create something attractive and practical!

  1. Kraft packing paper- Compost or recycle leftover packing paper. Wrap and label seasonal decorations. Ask a local animal shelter if extra paper needed for dog bedding or cat litter.

  1. Kraft gift boxes- Sturdy enough for other uses, convert our compartment boxes as a covered catch-all for extra desk supplies. Use larger compartments for markers, pencils, pens, scissors, or batteries. Smaller compartment boxes for loose stamps, paper clips, push pins or rubber bands. Label, stack and store the boxes when not needed.

  1. Kraft paper shred-Re-purpose gift box shred for delicate ornaments, fragile porcelain decorations and holiday dishes. Or use to make layers between compost or mulch.

  1. Acid free kraft tissue paper-Most tissue paper fibers are too small to recycle but can be composted. Use kraft tissue paper to separate and store fabric napkins, placemats, or runners. Or as our friend Charlotte to create easy access nesting material for native birds; cut tissue paper in smaller squares, leave in an open box in the backyard, on the balcony, or patio.

  1. Ribbon-Usually not recyclable (they can tangle the sorting equipment), cut loose ribbon and leave in an open box in the backyard, on the balcony, or patio as nesting material for native birds.

  1. Air pillows or bubble wrap-Pack fragile household articles or breakable items. Usually not permitted in home recycling bins, to find a local recycling drop off location check out https://www.plasticfilmrecycling.org/recycling-bags-and-wraps/find-drop-off-location/

  1. Glass bottles & jars-Wash, dry and sterilize bottles, caps, jars, and lids thoroughly even if recycling.

  • Use olive oil bottles to store leftover broth in the refrigerator, small beans, or rice in the pantry

  • Use Tuscan herb seasoning blend large and small jars for toothpicks, rubber bands, Q-tips, safety bins or stray buttons.

  • Use balsamic vinegar bottles as bud vases for smaller spaces.

  I. Recycled Sugar Cane Corks -Repurpose our wine bottle corks to make hot bowl trivets, wine glass charms, floating key fobs or herb & veggie garden markers.
